Drones are becoming a trend and are being used for more and more things. From photos and camera shots that would otherwise be impossible to get; to everyday training and sport models. More and more, people are finding new uses for drones every day. It is an exciting and growing industry to be a part of! Aerial photographers are now capturing landscapes from previously impossible to reach altitudes.
Real-estate agents are now showcasing properties from breathtaking perspectives. Farmers are utilizing 3D mapping to access crop health and optimize growing potential. Companies like Google and Amazon are experimenting with use of drones for product delivery. Maybe you will be the next person to come up with a new innovative use!
Drone Flying Legality: These flying machines can legally roam the skies under 400 ft. for recreational purposes. But it’s strongly recommend that you don’t fly them around any government buildings, lands or especially anything military related. With so many ‘pilots’ taking to the skies, it is important that we remember to fly cautiously and with safety in mind. When flying, it is crucial to stay below 400 feet, keep at least five miles away of airports, and never fly above people. Regardless of how much research you have done on a specific drone, it is absolutely necessary to read the owner’s manual from start to finish before flying.
Note: Each drone model can be somewhat different and requires a thorough understanding of the specific model in order to fly safely.
The good news is that drones are pretty easy to learn how to fly! You can get the hang of it with a little bit of practice. That being said, keep in mind we recommend starting with a small and relatively inexpensive drone. When learning you are bound to crash a few times and beginner drones like the UDI U818A (above) are durable enough to sustain crashes in the grass without breaking. This will save you money and future headaches; then as your skills improve you can move onto more advanced drones.
Training Drones:
So we have a friend who lives in the rural Iowa with a considerable amount of open land. He offers it up to friends and neighbors wanting to gain experience and confidence in flying drones. I gotta say, being able to have open line of sight while interacting with controls definitely helps removes the ‘fear of flying’. I’ve watched him control his higher-priced drone…and he’s pretty good (but word to the wise…respect people’s right to privacy!!!!!).
Two days before my visit…I guess he met one of his few neighbors, and let’s just say the farmer wasn’t stopping in to introduce himself (smile).
